The Greens (WA) will invest almost $1 billion annually into supporting new and emerging clean industries by ensuring fossil fuel industries pay their fair share.
Announced today alongside The Greens (WA) Tackling Climate Change policy, the Making Polluters Pay policy will raise more than $875 million per year by ending government subsidies for fossil fuel projects.
For too long big polluters have been financially supported by governments at the cost of our climate and communities.
By redirecting public money to fund industries of the future, The Greens (WA) will ensure that public money is invested in the future of our state, not in the dying oil and gas industries.
Comments to be attributed to a Greens (WA) spokesperson for climate change Tim Clifford MLC.
“The Greens (WA) will redirect fossil fuel subsidies to support the transition to 100% renewable energy by 2030 and net-zero by 2035 by investing in the zero-carbon industries of the future, supporting renewable energy technologies, regenerating our natural environment and supporting our communities,” Mr Clifford said.
“Between 2008 and 2014, the WA State Government spent an estimated total of $6.2 billion on support to the mining and fossil fuel industry.
“We can no longer continue to sacrifice our future by propping up coal and gas with public money.”
